A Trip to Mary Coyle Ol’ Fashion Ice Cream in Downtown Phoenix

October 24, 2022 by admin

On a hot summer day, there is nothing better than some old-fashioned ice cream. That is exactly what is found at Mary Coyle’s in downtown Phoenix. It is a cute little place on the bottom floor of an upscale apartment complex just north of Encanto Boulevard on Central Avenue. There is also a light rail stop just across the street.

It was such a cute place to just sit and relax. There was a steady flow of customers, but at the same time, it was a slow enough pace to still enjoy the moment.

I just may head back for another Banana Split…maybe I will take the light rail and explore a little too!

We love the Arizona Mountains!!

November 11, 2019 by admin

We wanted to go up to Pinetop, Arizona, but we also wanted to go to Flagstaff. We couldn’t decide, so we decided to go to both. We decided to start this trip by going to Pinetop, Arizona, then head over to Flagstaff before heading back home. It was a great trip. We saw some beautiful scenery along the way. On the way up to Pinetop, we stopped along the Mogollon Rim to take some pictures. We had camped as kids and still as adults at some of the Mountain Lakes in this area. It is so beautiful on the Rim.

After stopping at the Rim to take in the views and going for a short walk, we headed to Pinetop. One of the things that we wanted to do in Pinetop was to eat dinner at Charlie Clark’s Steakhouse. The meal was unbelievable!! We had the Prime Rib and the Ribeye. They were both so good! You really must eat at Charlie Clark’s if you are in the area. If you aren’t in the area, you should consider going there! The next morning, we went for a short drive through town before heading our way to Flagstaff, via Holbrook and Winslow.

On our way to Flagstaff, we traveled through Holbrook and Winslow. We saw the Wigwam Motel. It was so fun! For those of you who have seen the movie Cars, you will recognize the motel. The motel had wigwams with old cars parked out front. In the movie, the wigwams were traffic cones! 🙂

We also stopped at a roadside shop call Geronimo. At the shop, they have a huge petrified log standing about 10ft in the air! It weighs 89,000lbs., therefore, it is also buried 9ft below ground and the part below ground is encased in cement! There are also other pieces of the tree laying on the ground beside it! The pieces of petrified log were just huge! What a fun drive!!

The final stretch of our weekend trip was driving up to Arizona Snowbowl. The drive was beautiful with the Fall colors in all their glory. The gold and auburn colors were just breathtaking!

After leaving Snowbowl, we drove through Sedona. Sedona was busy, but that is because it has such a unique, natural beauty. If you have never been there, it is worth the trip!

Wild Horses at the Salt River

October 30, 2019 by admin

We took a drive this morning to see the wild horses at the Salt River! We did see some wild horses, they were beautiful…so was the scenery. We went to a few places, but ended up seeing quite a few horses near a bridge. We hiked back a little to see if we could get some different views. But, honestly, the best and most peaceful views were just sitting on a rock near the bridge, in the quiet, watching the horses.

It was so tranquil out there, we cannot wait to go there again and just watch…in silence…so beautiful.

We finished up the morning by having a great breakfast at Shiprock Restaurant at Saguaro Lake!! It was a great morning!!!

Check out the Giant Spurs!!

September 15, 2019 by admin

If you are taking a nice drive through Wickenburg, Arizona, don’t miss seeing the Giant Spurs as you are leaving town!! The drive is so beautiful by itself, but you can’t miss seeing these iconic spurs.

We are not big fans of roundabouts, but if we must have them, they should all be as fun as this one! The biggest set of spurs you will likely ever see….it must take one mighty big cowboy to fill ’em!!

We Loved Bearizona!!

July 26, 2019 by admin

Bearizona…one word…amazing!! We had wanted to go there for some time. You know the routine, something reminds you of the place, you say we need to go there, but then, you don’t go. Don’t let that happen for Bearizona, it was a great place to go, and it was a beautiful day away from the summer heat!

You are able to go through the driving portion of Bearizona as many times as you like during the day of your ticket entry. We would recommend you go through at least twice, as you will see animals and their behaviors differently each time you go through! Did we say amazing!?!

We were able to see the animals and their beautiful habitats. In addition to the driving portion of Bearizona, they also have a walking portion on the grounds, similar to zoos that we are accustomed to, but well worth walking through! Personally, I loved the otters, my all-time favorite, but the raccoons, foxes and all the others were my favorites as I watched them. Much of the time, I was in awe that I was actually seeing them…and up so close!

We were able to see a bear in a tree, a raccoon climbing down a tree, 2 bobcats circling their habitat, wolves circling our vehicle and a jaguar staring down a young boy through the glass of it’s habitat…the stare down of this large cat was unbelievable!!

So, go, get out of the summer heat! Go to Bearizona!! You won’t regret it!!!

We Rode the Arizona Snowbowl Ski Lift!

July 22, 2019 by admin

We rode the Arizona Snowbowl ski lift! Snowbowl is known as a great ski resort, but riding the ski lift in the summer was just breathtaking!

We took a 30 minute ride up the ski lift up to an elevation of 11,500 feet. Such scenic views, it was quite amazing. We enjoyed the quiet ride up the mountain, it was just a relaxing time to talk and take in the views. Once up there, you can walk further up the mountain or stay in the area where the ski lift lets you off, but no matter, the views are just spectacular!

When we came down the mountain, the views were still just amazing! Part of the way down, we could hear the sound of guitars. It was nice against the backdrop of the mountain views! There was a band playing music, and games and activities for the kids or just the young at heart! It was just a great, relaxing day up in the mountains at Arizona Snowbowl.

One last thing…don’t do what we did. We did not purchase our tickets ahead of time, as we could have saved 20% by purchasing our tickets online. You must purchase your tickets online at least by midnight the day before you intend to take the ski lift ride. So, go now and buy your tickets for the Arizona Snowbowl ski lift.

We highly recommend this trip, and we plan to go again when the leaves are changing color in the Fall!! Can’t wait!!

The 9th Annual Arizona Balloon Classic

July 11, 2019 by admin

At the beginning of the year, we went to the 8th Annual Arizona Balloon Classic. It was quite amazing! When we arrived, the crews for each of the balloons were at different stages of getting ready for flight. Some were unloading, some were getting ready to inflate their balloons, while others were inflating, and some even taking flight. There was an interesting assortment of balloons to see! There was Smokey the Bear, a witch on a broom, a cowboy themed balloon, and some that were just very colorful!

In addition to the balloons, there were different stages with music, it was a great production!! There were also food booths, merchandise booths, and craft beer available for purchase. It is definitely a fun day for the entire family! It was a great time, and we can’t wait for the 9th Annual Arizona Balloon Classic!!
